Harcourt denies tests are made from pig testicle byproducts

John Hamworth, a spokesman for Harcourt Assessment, Inc., denied rumors that their tests are made from pig testicles byproducts. “Harcourt Assessment, Inc., has a long and rich history that dates to the early part of the 20th century and is tied to some of the most respected names in publishing,” said Hamworth, handing out the company’s mission statement.
MISSION: We dedicate our resources to providing premium quality assessment materials to facilitate the success of our customers, people helping people.
“This mission does not include pig testicles byproducts,” Hamworth reiterated.
Don’tBeFooled.com, tracker of Urban High Stakes Testing Legends, reports, "Reality Lab has not finished analysis of test booklets, though they report that no one there could answer the fourth grade reading comprehension questions."
Asked whether anti-testing insurgents had started the pig testicle rumor in an attempt to discredit Harcourt, a Florida teacher said, "Harcourt has done that job on its own. We want a full investigation of how they loused up the test results, no matter what the tests are made of.."
John Hamworth insisted, “We collaborate with educators to understand their needs, develop usable tools, and achieve effective solutions that help ensure program excellence and provide added value to their programs.”
A FairTest representative reiterated their commitment to end the misuses and flaws of standardized testing and to ensure that evaluation of students, teachers and schools is fair, open, valid and educationally beneficial.
NEA spokesman affirmed that their positive agenda for ESEA reauthorization insists that more than test scores be used to measure student learning and school performance, no matter what the tests are made of.
An aide to Rep. George Miller said said the question of Harcourt test constitution was clearly an attempt of dissidents to distract Democratic leadership from maintaining a commitment to the goals of the No Child Left Behind law to close the academic achievement gap and helping all children learn by holding states and schools accountable for students’ academic progress, we must also make significant changes to the law in order to reach those goals.
Asked about George Miller's score on the 4th grade reading test, the aide replied, "No comment."
