Here is Your Chance to Fight High Stakes Testing Very Directly

Sue Allison (Marylanders Against High Stakes Testing) Comment: Juanita Doyon and the Parent Empowerment Network of Washington State (PEN) have done lots of heavy lifting that has benefited high stakes testing opponents everywhere. For example, without PEN we wouldn't know about the FERPA regulations that require state officials to produce HSA tests and scored answer sheets upon request by parents within 45 days.

Now PEN is asking us to sponsor a WA state 2008 senior for $20 to ensure that PEN's lawsuit against WASL is successful. A victory in Washington State for PEN would send chills up the spines of the testocrats who are trying to push these exit exams down the throats of parents in all 50 states.

    Dear national de-testing buddies,

We're sticking our necks way, way out here in WA. I think this is what they call the "bleeding edge of education reform." The prospectus for the lawsuit provided by our lead attorneys says the first phase, which takes us through filing for an emergency injunction against the denial of diplomas, will cost approximately $135,000. This is with Disabilities Rights Advocates working for us for expenses only and assistance from two nonprofit legal firms. The estimate for the lawsuit itself is about a million. That's a lot of button money!

Our case is sound and our attorneys are experienced in civil rights and government liability, extremely enthusiastic about the WASL case, and confident that we can win. This case could change the testing world for the nation, not to mention being another chink in the Pearson Education Measurement armor.

Any help any of you dedicated fellow activists can offer would be deeply appreciated. Sue Allison has already spread the word in MD. Can we make this a national grassroots campaign? Please?

    Thank you!

Sponsor a Senior and Save a Diploma!

For the price of four fast food meals ($20) you can sponsor one senior-- Bonus: No transfats in saving a diploma!

Juanita's daughter who teaches band in Nevada is starting her contribution by sponsoring 2 seniors and has pledged to sponsor more next month. Do you know a band teacher? How about asking all band teachers to sponsor at least 2 seniors (and maybe save the arts in the process)?

This campaign does not stop at state borders. It has 40 sponsorships so far from Indiana.

Join in. We all have a stake in this lawsuit.
