Case closed on alleged threats by principal

What do you suppose would happen to a student who said, "I will kill all of you and shoot myself"?

The school website is interesting. It offers a link that has been dead for a year to a site that used to offer 10 Tips for Living in Peace With Your MS Child

The Answers to Grammar Questions link works, as does Daily Grammar Practice.

The school's Student Code of Conduct is a pdf file that won't load.

The school does not seem to have a mission statement, though it has a slogan: Excellence In Education for All Students.

The case of a middle school principal who allegedly threatened a teacher's life is closed this week after dismissal by the district attorney's office.

Science teacher Anita White went to authorities in March after she and several colleagues were threatened in January, she says, by New Braunfels Middle School principal John Burks.

According to White, Burks said at a staff meeting, "I will kill all of you and shoot myself — you don’t know how ruthless I can be" if the department's standardized test scores did not improve.

According to police documents released Thursday, several science teachers interviewed by the New Braunfels Police Department said Burks did state he would kill them as well as himself.

Burks has maintained his innocence, though he did tell police he’d threatened teachers’ jobs. He later admitted to using the word 'ruthless.'

"At one point during the interview," the investigation report reads, "Burks subtly acknowledged that he was brought in to 'clean house,' so to speak. He did remember telling all the science teachers that if the TAKS grades did not improve, none of them would have a job there."

Burks continued to deny using threatening language, the report says, "but then changes his statement by saying he may/might have used such words but could not recall."

District Attorney Geoff Barr confirmed Thursday that White's case "had insufficient evidence to go forward."

White said Thursday she was disappointed by the outcome of the case, and was told it was rejected because "at the time of the threat, there was no immediate outcry to the police."

White first made her allegations in March after Burks reassigned her to NBISD’s alternative school, effectively ending her 18-year tenure at the middle school campus.

Trustees rejected early Tuesday a separate grievance she filed through the school district seeking reassignment to a regular campus.

White says she has various options to pursue both the employee grievance and the criminal case, but said she could not elaborate Thursday pending advice from her attorney.
