Dallas ISD has online auction for personal items bought with district credit cards

    Let's admit it: We love
    outrageous stories out of Texas.

A pink Coach purse, a heart-shaped diamond ring,
    a trendy leather jacket.

Dallas ISD is holding an online auction to cash
in some of the loot that was confiscated from
employees who were using the district’s credit
cards for things that don’t have much to do with
    educating kids.

In July 2006, The Dallas Morning News
reported that several hundred DISD employees had
inappropriately used their district credit cards
to the tune of several million dollars.

The district ended up scrapping the credit card
    program and disciplining 86 employees.

The 72 items now up for bid were turned over to
DISD by the FBI. They include computers, cameras
and printers, as well as a closet-full of
    clothes, personal items and jewelry.

District spokesman Jon Dahlander said some of
the items were illegally purchased by Gloria
Orapello, a former secretary sentenced to a year
in prison and ordered to make $100,000
restitution for misusing her district credit
    card.

Dahlander said the district will keep the money
made from the auction and proceeds from the sale
will reduce the restitution owed by that amount,
    per the court ruling.

The total haul won’t be known the auction ends
    April 29.
