limbo
A longtime teacher offers a disquieting view of the how a professional is treated.
by Frances Magritte
i took a little jaunt
enveloped in gorgeous weather
[had almost forgotten about that phenomena-- gorgeous weather]
to pick up a refill of hang-in-there-now capsules
wondering,
hey, now: just how long
can one single bullied teacher hang-in-there-now?
driving home
it struck me
squarely
that
the "issues" in their situation room
those presently stamped as all-consuming to
those adminazis and standardistos
in their courtroom of witch trials
are, in reality, issues all around
discrediting me
because i
comforted a crying child during testing
reported an abusive mom
to authorities
who tattled
displayed student work in the hallway too low
challenging the fire marshal
asked why
there are so few black
and hispanic children in our gifted program
wondered why a principal would
pass a smoking bong with staff
hit the send key too fast while
sending truth
was 2.7 minutes late to a meeting from
carrying in donations
won't tolerate doormat status
children-in-distress need us
someone
though you'd never know,
as the term "child" rarely
if ever
mentioned
in their sickeningly
pseudo-polite repartée
what happened to
children at the center
anyway
did i miss something
well on my planet
children count
for quite a lot
in the scheme of things
just
too
many
questions
missy
got my own brains here
thankyouverymuch
don't they see
or
have lenses become foggy
from years of disuse
now hear this
i will always,
maybe i should repeat
always
come out on
the side of the
child
is there really another?
