Gates grant tracking program on today's school board agenda
Ohanian Comment: If you're like me, you'll have to read this one twice. On the first quick read you're likely to think you misunderstood something.
What's next? Scripts for teachers to read to make sure they're on track for the Gates initiative?
What kind of food would Gates like in the cafeteria?

TAMPA - Hillsborough County School Board members are expected today to approve the purchase of special software to track the district's progress with the Gates' grant initiative.
The Lawson Talent Management Suite products will cost $832,097 -- money that comes from the $100 million Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant the district won in November.
The grant is bankrolling part of a seven-year plan to overhaul teaching in an effort to improve student achievement. One of the key elements is measuring teacher effectiveness and linking compensation with performance.
The grant requires the district to track its progress and report back to the Gates foundation throughout the seven years.
The board meets at 3 p.m. at the Raymond O. Shelton School Administration Center, 901 E. Kennedy Blvd.
Also being considered is an agreement between Metropolitan Ministries and the district to operate a public school in a space leased from the YMCA.
The district took over the former charter school at 2002 N. Florida Ave. in 2009. The agreement outlines policies and allows the two entities to maintain existing before- and afterschool programs.
Board members also will review construction documents related to the Plant High School's addition of 16 classrooms. The total cost is just under budget at $2.9 million.
Construction is expected to be finished by Aug. 9 and, according to school district officials, will allow the school to comply with the state-mandated Class Size Reduction Act that limits the number of students in core classes.
