Carpe Data: In Defense of Common Standards

    Ohanian Comment:

    H. Ogden Morse III is an English teacher at Falmouth High School, in Falmouth, Maine, and the chief executive officer of AcademicMerit LLC, based in Portland, Maine. He is a co-creator of Literary Companion®. and he writes a Commentary supporting Common Core standards in Education Week, June 25, 2010.

At least he's honest about having something to sell.

AcademicMerit LLC describes itself as an educational software and solutions company based in Portland, Maine. Founded in 2004, the company specializes in the development of Web-based tools that leverage technology in user-friendly ways to enhance learning, improve instruction, and facilitate assessment.

    From the Literary Companion website:

Literary Companion is an educational solution whose success is a direct reflection of the methodical approach of the people behind its development. Back in 2004, four individuals—representing complementary expertise in academic content, software development, Web development, and graphic design—came together to form AcademicMerit, LLC, and begin creating a Web-based product that would enhance the learning and teaching of classic literature.

Through a process deliberately grounded in first-hand knowledge of the needs of students, teachers, and administrators, this team has now exceeded its original vision—delivering a Web-based educational solution that seamlessly links learning, instruction and assessment.
