Craig Barret is married to Barbara McConnell Barrett, who was the United States Ambassador to Finland 2008–09, so they are politically well-connected. In 2000, they gave $10 million to Arizona State University, so they are filthy rich.

Herndon-based school curriculum software maker K12 Inc. says former Intel Corp. chairman and chief executive Craig Barrett has joined its board of directors.
Barrett retired as Intel chairman in 2009 and served as CEO from 1998 to 2005. He joined the Santa Clara company (NASDAQ:INTC) in 1974.
Barrett has since focused on causes to improve the quality of education. He currently chairs Change the Education [sic], which promotes innovation in education to improve science, technology, engineering and math education, and co-chairs Achieve Inc., which helps states improve the quality of testing and academic rigor in schools.
Barrett also co-chairs the National Association of Business' Coalition for Excellence in Education and has served on the National Commission on Mathematics and Science Teaching for the 21st Century.
Barrett "is passionate about improving education and expanding opportunities for children," said K12 Founder and Chief Executive Ron Packard in a statement. "Additionally, his experience managing an extraordinarily successful technology company will be valuable to K12."
K12's (NYSE: LRN) fiscal 2010 revenue was $384.5 million, up nearly 22 percent from fiscal 2009. Its full-year net income climbed 75 percent to $21.5 million.
