Dear Reverend,

I was pleased to hear from George Buzzetti in LA about your interest in students with with visual convergence difficulties in our schools and the possible diagnosis of "dyslexia" and "ADHD" due to this. This is a problem of the nervous system and research shows such difficulties due to exposure to volatile organic compounds.

I have the same condition and have done doctoral work in the field of literacy development as a former teacher and adjunct professor of literacy in NYC.

This pathology, and one report showing the 25% of students go undiagnosed for visual impairment, lead me to question any achievement scores based on teacher and school culpability.
Your interest in new lighting technology that controls light levels for various classroom activities along with invigorating the circadian system is timely in that possibly half the schools in the cities across the nation are on the verge of replacing their lighting systems due to leakages of PCBs into the classroom. The estimated cost is near one billion dollars in NYC alone and being mandated by the EPA.

NAACP and the New York Teachers Union came together in court to prevent schools from being closed down. We need to know if schools are suffering because of the visual neglect of the students and whether the new lighting technology of the future will make the current lighting obsolete.

You might reach out to the union president, Michael Mulgrew 212 777 7500, where we could have a meeting regarding the diagnosis of this condition and new lighting that will stimulate children and learning. The option of going directly to the leadership of the City Council is also a possibility.
