    Former Academic at U. of Pittsburgh Is Penalized for Research Misconduct

    Ohanian Comment: When a public school teacher falsifies data on standardized tests, she loses her teaching license. Forever.

    I think we should apply the federal government rule: forbid those who falsify data on standardized tests from going near standardized tests for three years.

    The Office of Research Integrity, the federal agency that investigates allegations of misconduct in research for the Department of Health and Human Services, announced today that Scott Weber, a former assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Nursing, had plagiarized and falsified data from two publications in two National Institutes of Health grant applications and two unpublished manuscripts. According to a notice in the Federal Register, Mr. Weber has agreed to exclude himself from work with federal agencies and from any advisory capacity to the U.S. Public Health Service for three years, effective September 7.
