Hello, Friends of Jerry Bracey
Hello, Friends of Jerry Bracey.
Thank you all for your notes and phonecalls sharing thoughts and memories about Jerry. Many of you have asked if there is a memorial fund or project that we could donate to in his memory. We have now created one, attached to the policy center that Jerry worked with.
As you know, Jerry was a long-time fellow of the Educational Policy Research Unit (at ASU) and its more recent collaborative partner, the Education and the Public Interest Center (at CU Boulder). Kevin Welner, the director of EPIC, has worked with the CU Foundation to help set up a way for us to donate to a memorial fund that would, if fully funded, provide a doctoral fellowship in Jerry's name. We're thinking of it as the Bracey Memorial Fellowship, given to a doc student with a research-based, hard-nosed commitment to further truth, equity, and social justice.
Just go to: http://www.cufund.org/giving-opportunities/fund-description/?id=5127
Don't click the "in memorial of" option since you probably don't have the info requested about his next of kin (his wife, Iris). Instead, just write "In memorial of Jerry Bracey" in the box. You may also mail checks, made out to "CU Foundation" with "EPIC - Jerry Bracey" in the memo line, directly to the School's Development Officer, Margot Neufeld, at:
University of Colorado at Boulder
School of Education
Margot Neufeld
249 UCB, room 116
Boulder, CO 80309
The Foundation has no fees for memorial gifts -- all the money goes to the gift purpose (student support in Jerry's name).
If we reach the $25,000 level from all donations in Jerry's name, we can create an ongoing scholarship/fellowship. Even if we do not reach that threshold, we would still use the money for student support in Jerry's name.
I will be posting this on the website soon but so many of you have been asking, I wanted you to have the information now.
I had a good conversation with Iris, Jerry's wife. Her children have arrived and she is holding up. She was proud of Jerry's work. He was working on the Bracey Report when he died. Since PDK dropped it, EPIC picked it up and it will be published soon at http://epicpolicy.org/.
There is so much more to say, but right now I wanted you to know about the memorial scholarship fund.
