    Welcome to CalCare: OPT OUT

    Welcome to CalCARE:
    California Coalition for
    Authentic Reform in Education

No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and its tests have made life in schools miserable for both children and teachers. The curriculum has become little more than test prep, as science, art, mustic, social studies, and even recess are disappearing fast. Students are dropping out at younger and younger ages, and teachers are leaving the profession earlier and earlier.

CalCARE is a grassroots organization of educators, parents, students, and concerned citizens working together to promote high quality teaching, learning, and accountability for all. We are the California affiliate of Fair Test's national Assessment Reform Network.

Our goals are to inform policy makers and the public about the dangers of tests and external standards, to promote authentic assessment, and to stop the testing madness.

We invite you to join us in our current project: opting out of this spring's STAR tests. We are organizing parents and high school students around the state to opt out in numbers big enough to make the point to the press, administrators, bureaucrats, and politicians that we have had enough.

To join this action please write to info@calcare.org, or call 510-496-6028.

This website serves as an information clearinghouse, as well as a portal to give voice and resource to those who want to get involved. We invite you to read more about this issue, as we continue to update our site, and make it more useful.
