Principal's Message about Reading
Principal's Message: Reading is First Reading is first at Benjamin Cosor Elementary School. We believe that strong and effective reading instruction is the cornerstone of all learning. For KG-3rd grades, we are part of the U.S. Department of Education’s Reading First initiative. This provides us with immeasurable support in reading instruction. All classes in these grades are committed to 90-minutes of uninterrupted reading instruction (daily); flexible grouping in learning centers; and a regular assessment framework that gauges not only student achievement, but also the effectiveness of our programs. We have taken the instructional plan of Reading First, and applied to reading instruction in grades 4-6 as well. Our assessment results have shown progress in all areas of reading achievement. We are proud of the efforts our students, staff, and community have made to make this possible. Our school’s mission is, quite simply, “Achieve.” This permeates our school on all levels—ranging from student achievement in academic areas to teacher achievement in professional development in their craft. We thank you for your continued support in our programs. Feel free to take an active role in your child’s education. For more information about our curricular and extra-curricular programs, please contact the main office, at 434-4110.
