Founded several years ago by the Presidents brother Neil Bush, Ignite! Learning provides science and social studies teaching tools through its Curriculum on Wheels (COW), a new-media, interactive learning system developed for middle school and upper elementary instruction.
On Tuesday, November 28, the company will officially launch its free learning channel on YouTube with 40+ segments of its popular science and social studies curricula. This project helps teachers overcome the problem of textbooks that quickly become outdated as science and current events advance. The channel is available at http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=ignitelearning
For example, most science textbooks will be slow to explain the new definition of "planet" that recently removed Pluto as the ninth planet. However, Ignite! was able to leverage YouTube as a mass-market delivery system and offer teachers a tool to address such cosmic change with a curriculum update entitled "Change Some Definitions."
Ignite's new media curriculum on Habeas Corpus, for example, is a controversial look at both past and present suspension of these rights in times of war.
YouTube is a cultural phenomena with thousands of amateur and semi-professional videos. The fact that Ignite! has embraced YouTube as a way to deliver content directly to teachers (and students) is a signal that YouTube and video content on the Web is growing up. Education is a national priority and innovative apporaches to make learning fun and interesting are being adopted nationwide. There are several thousand COWs in local school districts today. Many technologies in the classroom have failed because they fail to put teachers first. Ignite has designed its media to integrate with the classroom and the teacher's style and approach.
We can arrange several interviews for you including a briefing with Jeff Knight and Neil Bush of Ignite! as well as teachers, superintendents, principals and/or students that have used Ignite! media in the classroom.
You can reach me anytime at 512-423-4907 and we will work with you to ensure you have the information and access you need. The release is attached.
Let me know if you require a local angle or if you would like us to hold the story for a few days - which we can do.
My best -
