As you know, the Danielson Evaluation for Teaching Instrument has provided invaluable service for determining teacher effectiveness, but we've come to realize its 2,624 procedure codes and 13,047 diagnosis codes are limited in granularity about teacher performance.
Pursuant to our goal of recognizing teachers who have moved beyond effectiveness, we are pleased to announce a new system to be used in determining eligibility for Advanced Teacher status.
We take our cue from the valued profession of medicine. Recognizing the limitations of its own coding system, ICD-9, the medical profession is upgrading to ICD-10. Under ICD-10, if a person is injured while knitting or crocheting, his/her insurance company will be properly billed, thanks to the new codes.
The ICD-10 also includes coding for Struck by a turtle, parrot, goose, turkey, and so on. There is a code for Injured in a Chicken Coop. Injured Walking into Lamp Post -- Initial Encounter, and Injured Walking into Lamp Post -- Second Encounter.
The team of education experts writing code for Statistical Classification of Advanced Teaching (SCAT) includes: Joe Williams, Executive Director of Democrats for Education Reform, Michael Petrilli,executive vice president of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, Joanne Weiss, former Chief of Staff to US Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan and director of the Race to the Top competition, and before that employee of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and a custodian from NBC.
We welcome your attendance at the Statistical Classification of Advanced Teaching launch party, where the 86,235 procedure codes and 78,666 diagnoses codes will be on display. Please note: there are 5,149 procedure codes and 3,962 diagnoses codes for Grit.
From a lesson on a kindergartner Close Reading a non-fiction text to a 12th grader solving Fermat's Last Theorem, we have a code for the occurrence. The level of sophistication of the system is revealed in the -codes. Teacher scores are deducted for such orthodoxies as student free reading fiction or not explaining how they solved a math problem.
Thomas Friedman will keynote this gala event at the New York Stock Exchange. Arne Duncan will hold his crown as he speaks. Then Common Core architect David Coleman and queen of charter schools Eve Moskowitz will team-teach a Close Reading lesson with second graders flown in from Chicago. New York Times editorial writer Brent Staples will keep a score card coding Advanced Teaching as it occurs.
New Lexile estrogen levels will also be released.
