PEN Calls for Public to Contact Secretary Paige and Show Him How Much Teachers Are Supported

Ohanian Comment:Be careful of whom you welcome as a bedfellow.

GiveKidsGoodSchools.com is a project of the Public Education Network (PEN). They "believe that every child has a right to a world-class education." In their good guy role, right now they are calling for people to "Contact Secretary Paige to let him know how much you value our teachers. Fill out the form below to send your email now." The form contains this letter:

I am writing to express my concern over the remark you made about the National Education Association (NEA) earlier this week. Even if you didn't mean to imply the NEA is violent, it is still unacceptable to refer to any organization as a "terrorist organization," particularly in this day and age.

The NEA is an important organization that represents 2.7 million educators. These men and women perform a vital service for our nation, and they deserve our respect. I support our teachers and I support the groups like the NEA that serve them. In fact, teachers are my heroes!

I encourage you to foster a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation with the men and women who educate our nation's children. Absent this, it will be very difficult for us to meet our goal of truly leaving no child behind when it comes to education.

This is called controlling the opposition by throwing them a sop.
