If the University of North Florida and the Jacksonville Urban Systemic Initiative Weren't Total Standardistas, They'd Organize Parents to Fight the Tests Ruining Their Children's Education
They sat in a classroom yesterday reviewing sample questions from the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). They learned how to avoid test anxiety and were reminded to carefully read each question before answering.
These weren't Duval County students preparing for the FCAT. These were their parents.
The class was designed for parents whose children participate in the Saturday Stars program, a math, science and technology enrichment program for middle and high school students.
The program and parenting class is sponsored by the University of North Florida and the Jacksonville Urban Systemic Initiative, a school system program to improve math and science instruction.
The parenting session meets while children attend class at the Florida Community College at Jacksonville's Kent Campus. . . .
