About the breakfast briefing
-- As the implementation of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act proceeds, it is critical that states and school districts put in place the data systems necessary to comply with the Act's data collection requirements and for educators and administrators to gain an understanding of how to use data to improve student achievement.
-- The Data-driven Decision Making initiative, launched by leaders in the corporate and non-profit education technology community, is a source of up-to-date, unbiased information for educators on collecting, understanding and using data effectively; an easy-to-use mechanism for educating school leaders about data-driven decision making and its applications in elementary and secondary education; and a nationally-recognized framework for sharing knowledge among educators.
-- The breakfast briefing will provide attendees with an in-depth look at the components of the initiative as well as hands-on demonstrations of cutting edge data warehouse tools. The event will showcase key data-driven decision making issues and solutions to assist education professionals, state governments, and Members of Congress as they work with local school districts to improve student achievement and to effectively comply with the NCLB mandates.
The briefing will feature: remarks from Chairman Boehner and Ranking Member Miller; a presentation by John Bailey, Director of Educational Technology for the Department of Education; a panel discussion of school district and state education administrators that will focus on best data practices and their relationship to NCLB success; and a technology exhibit containing useful tools to understand the initiative. Panel participants include John Q. Porter, Associate Superintendent, Chief Information Officer, Montgomery County (MD) Public Schools; Tracy Jones, Data Systems Supervisor, Poway Unified School District, (CA); and Katie Lovett, Chief Information Officer, Fulton County Public Schools, GA.
-- Data-driven Decision Making is made possible through the generous support of Educational Testing Service (www.ets.org), IBM (www.ibm.com; NYSE:IBM), and SAS (www.sas.com and www.sasinschool.com). Further information about the Data-driven Decision Making initiative is available at the project's Web site, www.3D2Know.org.
